Some Parts Arrive

Today UPS delivered a few items from CARS, Inc. that I ordered last week. It feels kind of weird ordering parts for a car I don't even have yet, but I was awash in nostalgia when I opened the package and found the "BUICK EIGHT" letters I ordered for the front of the hood. I remember my father's Buick said "BUTCK EIGHT" because letters were very hard to find back then. He never found an "I" for the "BUICK" so he substituted a "T" instead--and from a distance, nobody really noticed. Reproduction items are much easier to find these days, and I think the quality is probably equal to a NOS item (at least for these). I also received two new headlamp rings and gaskets.

One problem: the parking lamp lenses I ordered were the wrong ones. Instead a pair of the large top-of-fender lenses, I got one little plastic disc about the size of my thumb. I don't have a clue where it goes, or even if it fits my car. They sent the right gaskets for the lenses, but not the right lenses--what gives? I'll call CARS later today and try to get it straightened out.

I also bid on a few items on Ebay today, including a trunk emblem, which my car is missing. This particular one is NOS, so it is really quite nice. I believe that the turn signals are integrated into this assembly so that it lights up whenever the signals are on. The same guy also has a lot of other items that I need, such as taillights and gauges, and a gorgeous NOS grille (starting bid: $675, and probably worth it). Before I buy anything else, however, I'm going to examine my car when it arrives to make sure I don't buy something I don't need.

I also tried to buy an original Buick sales brochure on Ebay, but the reserve was over $100. That's pretty steep for some literature. All I want it for is to determine color combinations for 1941 cars so I can pick one that I like when I paint the car. I'm hoping that maybe Doug Seybold has this information and can help me out. I'm going to give him a call in a few days, or maybe take the car down to show him and get his advice on the restoration process.
