What Next?

I think I've reach the point where there aren't many really BIG things left to do. I know I've said this before, but this weekend I really hit the wall. I'm saving all the little projects that can be done in the basement during the cold months. I was working towards getting the body off the frame, but the welder has not shown up yet, and I don't believe that I will be able to leave the frame at the powdercoater's place all winter. Julia pointed out that if I have a body on a rotisserie and a frame being assembled, that's two spaces in the 2-car garage. She also pointed out that it meant I would be digging out two cars each morning this winter instead of just one. Well stated, Julia. For the moment, I guess I'm going to leave the body on the frame until next Spring when I can commandeer both spaces and build the complete chassis. Of course, that's subject to change any time.

I finished flushing the main heater core, fixed the fins and made the tubes round again. It's ready to be lightly blasted in the cabinet and painted. I'm going to send out my little electric motors to be rebuilt, so once they're back, I'll be able to put completed heater and defroster units on the shelf ready to go.

As I said, there weren't many things to do, but the brakes and shocks were still on the back of the car, so I took them off. Easy.

No, it's not a rock, it's one of the rear shock absorbers.

Then I removed the rear sway bar and emergency brake cables. I didn't want to remove the springs yet because they're still holding up the back of the car, and having tires on back there makes it a lot easier to move around.

With that done on both sides, I didn't have much else to do, and I wasn't really motivated to get on with anything. I have decided to replace all non-critical nuts and bolts with stainless steel parts, and any critical bolts with ARP hardware. I sat down at my workbench and started cataloging the nuts and bolts I've removed that were still in the garage. I made a spreadsheet of sizes that I have and those that I need to order. It seems that a vast majority of bolts on the car are 7/16-26x3/4". Stock up if you have a '41 Buick. From my stock of stainless fasteners, I put those I had into the baggies with the old bolts so when reassembly comes, they'll be right there. Is this overkill? Probably.
